A FEW DAYS BREAK IN TAUNTON

We decided to take a short break in the West Country and finally decided on Taunton from there we would probably move on into Devon the location was important as I served in the fleet air arm for a number of years stationed at Yeovilton and desperately wanted to revisit my old haunts.

We decided to just travel without booking and missed our turn off at exit 25 on the M5 south bound ending up at the Taunton Deane services  on the way in we saw a sign saying Days Inn Taunton now I had stayed with Days Inn in America and  thought we would check them out as time was getting on, we arrived at the reception area were warmly greeted by the receptionist who advised on room and rates there were rooms available and decided we could use this area for a day or two to make a few sentimental visits in the next few days.

We looked at some of the visitor attractions that we could visit while staying at the Days Inn Taunton the amount of attractions we could visit was vast I am a great fan of cricket and a visit to the centre of Taunton was a must to visit the county ground as I had spent many hours watching the great cricketers like Ian Botham and Viv Richards ply their trade brilliant morning spent looking around highly recommend it.

After a very enjoyable morning we decided we would move onto Dunster Castle for a little more sightseeing the weather decided to turn against us so after a very enjoyable tea we returned to our comfortable base at Days Inn Taunton.

 The information we had gleaned from Days Inn Taunton guest information area was invaluable there were attractions to suit every taste that you could think of steam railways to visit Cheddar Gorge in the centre of Taunton there is the Brew House where they put on all different types of shows to keep everyone happy we stayed another day at Days Inn Taunton and decided to move onto Devon we really did enjoy our stay in Taunton and would definitely return to the Days Inn Taunton  for another for sure enjoyable short stay.

WITH IT BEING THE HOLIDAYS ME AND MY HUSBAND DECIDED TO TAKE THE 3 CHILDREN TO EDINGBROUGH ZOO, BUT AS IT IS SUCH A LONG JOURNEY FOR US WE DECIDE TO BREAK OUR JOURNEY AND STOP OFF AT A HOTEL IN DURHAM. WE DECIDED TO STOP IN THE DAYS INN HOTEL AT DURHAM SERVICES.

DONT BE FOOLED BY THE HOTEL IN DURHAM BEING AT A SERVICES IT WAS GREAT ROOM RATE WAS ONLY £25 AS I BOOKED ONLINE AND THE GOOD THING WAS I ONLY BOOK 7 DAYS BEFORE I WAS DUE TO ARRIVE. ALSO WAHT WAS GREAT IS THAT THE ROOM HAD AN EN SUIT, FREE VIEW IN THE ROOM, FREE TEA AND COFFEE ALSO IT WAS FREE WALK IN WIFI.

WHEN WE ARRIVED AT THE HOTEL WE WERE GREETED BY A POLITE MEMBER OF STAFF. GAVE EYE CONTACT WHEN TALKING TO US ALWAYS SMILING GREAT SERVICE AT THE HOTEL IN DURHAM.ON CHECKING IN THE RECEPTIONIST OFFERED US A WYNDAM REWARDS CARD WICH I THINK IS A REALLY GOOD REWARDS SCHEAME, ALSO WE GOT A LOYALTY CARD WHICH WAS GREAT.

WE WENT TO OUR ROOM TO TAKE OUR BAGS IN WE SAT DOWN HAD A NICE CUP OF TEA BEFORE WE WENT BACK TO THE RECPTION TO ASK IF THERE WAS ANYTHING TO DO IN DURHAM, THE RECEPTIONIST AT THE DAYS INN HOTEL IN DURHAM WAS GREAT AS WE HAD YOUNG CHILDREN SHE TOLD US OF A GOOD PLAY AREA FOR THE CHILDREN AND ALSO TOLD US OF SOME GREAT PLACES TO EAT. THE RECEPTIONIST GAVE ME A MAP OF DURHAM TO HELP ME FIND MY WAY.

I WENT INTO DURHAM TO HAVE A LOOK AROUND THE CATHERDERIAL WAS LOVLEY THE CHILDREN ENJOYED THE WALK DOWN BY THE RIVER. WHEN WE GOT BACK WE WENT BACK TO THEN HOTEL AND HAD A GREAT SLEEP GOT UP EARLY WENT FOR A GREAT VALUE BREAKFAST AS WE ONLY PAYED £7.50 FOR ALL OF US AS THE CHILDREN ATE FREE.

OVERALL I FOUND MY EXPERIENCE OF THE HOTEL IN DURHAM GREAT I WOULD RECCOMEND THIS DAYS INN HOTEL IN DURHAM TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO STOP IN THE DURHAM AREA.

I recently visited the stunning county of Durham with my husband and two children, we had been given some £25 room vouchers by a friend of the family and were told of the great hotel that is Days Inn Durham which is located only 4 miles from City of Durham.  We logged onto the Days  Inn  website and booked our £25 rooms with only a weeks notice which i personally think for it’s location and considering it is a Hotel in Durham  it is outstanding  value for money!  On arrival we were greeted by an extremely friendly member of the Days  Inn reception  staff who could not  have done more for us during our stay. We were given plenty of advice and knowledge of the surrounding area by the receptionists during our stay, such as great and plentiful places to eat and local places of interest. 

 We  Visited Durham city centre and were very impressed by it’s history and  culture, we were also a little shocked to see the amount  the Hotels  in Durham City centre were charging for their rooms when we were staying only a few miles down the road and paying less than a third of the price. We also got a food voucher for £7.50 which was to the value of £10 when spent in Restbite in Roadchef, we could also use it to get Traditional English Breakfasts which we found a great start to the day. The Breakfast was served until  12 pm which meant we weren’t having to rush around on a morning trying to get the kids up and ready.

This particular Hotel in Durham area has a Roadchef attached at which has facilities open 24 hours, WH Smith, Restbite and Costa coffee which was invaluable for us having small Children as everything we could possibly need was in easy reach. The late night Costa caffeine fix came in very handy when our little ones were playing up during the night!

I would most certainly visit Durham again and wouldn’t  look to visit any other Hotel in Durham due to the  Days Inn’s very reasonable room rate, value for money,  great location, friendly, knowledgeable staff, cosy and comfortable rooms with flat screen TV’s with built in Freeview, free WiFi  and the great facilities of Roadchef.  I cannot see any reason to book any other Hotel in  Durham area as Days Inn has everything you need for a great few days away. I will be recommending  Days Inn Durham  to everyone i  know and we as a family will be visiting this hotel  again later on this year as we still have so much to see and do.

Looking for a Hotel in Durham? I was, and guess what? You don’t half have to pay a heavy price in this historic City just to get your head down, Not me I thought. Went to Day’s Inn Website and hey presto there was one with rooms for £25! Me, the wife and baby Molly for £25! The catch, well you might have thought that a Motorway Service Area is not for you but don’t be fooled. A Hotel in Durham, a few miles away but with easy access, clean comfortable rooms, Freeview TV, Free WiFi and bacon butties 24 hours a day – Happy Days!

Arrived at 3pm, went to the room, quick shower in the En Suite, bit of C Beebies for Molly and into town. Well, this place is fantastic for a bit of sight seeing, river walks and what we were here for, the pantomime at the Gala Theatre. Sure, a hotel in Durham meant it was all on our doorstep, but not worth the extra £80 a night or so they were asking, spent that saving on a nice meal beforehand some supper and had change for a few pints in a family friendly pub after! Taxi, a few quid only, and a Costa before bed at the services itself.

Anyway, got up for Breakfast, ripped off I here you ask, not this canny lad. They were giving guests 25% discount on all food and drink and when we got to the Restaurant we only went and got two breakfasts for £7.50! You may ask how I fed Molly – well Free food for the little lass – in a hotel in Durham!

Listen, take a tip from me, - I’m away with a few mates in a couple of weeks for a bit of footy watching at the Stadium of Light. Am I going to bother searching the Web for Hotels in Durham again? No way Danno – this place will do us nicely. Junction 61 A1M and there you are. Spoke to the lass on Reception and there’s a couple of Restaurants close by to walk to, a decent pint in them she says – she’ll do for me. I reckon all Receptionists should have the following patter. Where’s the best place for fodder, where’s the nearest pub, where to soak it up at Breakfast time with a bit of brekky and do I have to get up early – no we don’t! Happy Happy Days!
